Kids Can Cook: Fish Bites
Not too long ago, Ethan’s favourite KorKor XiangCool bought him a recipe book for kids titled Kids Can Cook. Ethan has been super excited to try the recipes in there from that day onwards but I’ve been busy.
Today, we finally had time to spare in the kitchen and Ethan chose his favourite recipe, ‘Fish Bites’. Ethan and I are fish person. We super duper LOVE fish!
Kids Can Cook Fish Bites
Ingredients:
500g firm white boneless fish
1/2 cup plain (all-purpose) flour
2 eggs, beaten with a little milk
1 cup fine dry breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon seasoning
3/4 cup olive oil
We made our own breadcrumbs.
Click here for our ‘Making your own breadcrumbs’ entry.
Cut the fish fillet into 3cm cubes.
Coat each piece of fish with all-purpose flour.
Dip fish into the egg mixture
Then dip fish into the breadcrumbs with seasoning.
Fry crumbed fish pieces in olive oil on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until golden, turning a couple of times.
Note: Always remember to undercook rather than overcook your fish, to keep the texture firm and the flesh moist and delicious.
Served with steamed vegetable, this was our lunch today! Yummy!
wow…you let your lil boy fry with hot oil???
Good to learn. No need to be over-protective. Would not kill them… Grown-ups who cook every day and all the time may also get into some mishap sometimes. Just stand back and keep one eye open. My missus would keep giving instructions and in the end, interfere…and eventually take over. That’s why my daughter never got to learn much until she went abroad…and now, she would prefer to cook when the mum’s not home.
Arthur, I totally agree with you. When I was younger I never bothered to learn how to cook and when I went to stay in hostel during my college years I suffered. Did not even know how to cook rice! Went home during the holidays and took a crash course from my mom on easy cooking. Ethan spends most of his time with me and he sees me cooking everyday. That boy wants to try everything himself and I know him. I have confidence in his motor skill hence I let him try :D
We pay big bucks to get our kids into places like KidZania where they can role-play becoming chefs, painter, pilots, fire-fighter and so on. For Ethan, his HOME is KidZania where he IS a chef, a musician, painter and more ^_^
I like this! Ethan is a good cook! May I know what fish do you use?>
Hi Mummy Moon,
We bought the frozen fish fillet from Jusco. I’m not too sure what fish is that though. Sorry.
So nice of Xiangcool kor-kor, great influence on Ethan.
Good to start young and good to be able to do things themselves. Some parents pamper their kids too much – serve them like royalty – will only do more harm than good.
And I always hear people say that guys who can cook are sexy… Wink! Wink!
Oh YES! I always find guys who can cook SEXY too! It’s like guys finding girls who’re INTO cars sexy.. macam tu lah kan? haha..
Should get Ethan to wear the chef’s tall white hat. He is now a cute little chef. It is good to let kids explore at home. Kudos to mummy too!
Clever boy! But I dare not let my girls fry la.. if oil spray maybe shd be OK! The food looks good!
Well done,Ethan…..
He can use knife and cook with fire now, amazing!
cool.. look at the little chef there!!! can just both me and breanna hop over one day? :p
next time we cook together ok? XD hahaha I want makan oso mah :X
It looks so good and yummy. Well done to the lil chef, Ethan.
Ethan can cook… impressive! You trained him well. I want to train Chloe too… she is very slow, clumsy and gets on my nerve, which is why I never bother letting her go near the kitchen in the first place :(
Kudos to my favorite boy, so what’s the next dish he gonna cook?
