The Mix : New Menu
We love The Mix, located at Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie. We celebrated our Wedding Anniversary (last year) and Valentine’s Day there this year. Last month, we were invited to sample Chef Francis Lau’s fusion interpretation of a new menu.
First out was the Set of Six Fusion Tapas featuring six types of tapas influenced from various regions from America to Mexico to China and India.
Paneer Makhani (cheese paneer), Quaker Oats Prawn (crispy prawns coated in oats), MexicanChimichangas (fried crispy tortilla spring roll), Jalapeno Chicken (pickled green jalapeno chili rolled with chicken breast), Balsamic Lamb Skewers (tender lamb skewers marinated in balsamic vinegar) and Ika Jiaozi (poached squid paste mixed with mushroom).
For soup, we had the Southern Crab Bisque (RM32) this time around. This spicy and thick broth simply whets my appetite with the rich ocean flavor preparing my tummy for a great dinner ahead. I tried their Seafood Tomyam during our Anniversary dinner and loves that as much too.
As Ethan doesn’t take spicy stuff, he went straight to the Yakuza BBQ Chicken (RM22) – a whole piece of chicken thigh char-grilled with teriyaki sauce sitting on a bed of Japanese coleslaw and accompanied by Tempura cheese.
The Mix Caesar (RM25) has got to be my favourite as it features omega rich grilled salmon accompanying the romaine lettuce dressed in the garlicky and creamy Caesar dressing. I can just float away in the river with the salmon now…
Apuzzo Crab Cakes (RM30). I fell in love with the presentation of this lemon basil flavor crab patties fried to a golden perfection. Ethan had the most of this as he loved biting into the crispy crust.
Harissa Beef Tenderloin (RM55) is a succulent thick piece of seared beef tenderloin. What I noticed after dining at The Mix numerous times is that they take art and presentation very seriously. Each and every meal we had are presented lavishly that I can feel the chef’s passion in them.
BBQ Short Beef Ribs (RM50) is superb! I’ve never had beef ribs so tender and flavorful. Too bad Darling doesn’t take beef or I bet he’ll love this as much as I do.
Asam Asam Chicken (RM35). This sweet and sour chicken is easily Darling’s favourite of the night. He says he feels so at home when biting into the tamarind marinated chicken.
Sea Bass Black Wu Chiu (RM40) screams black pepper sauce. If you are a black pepper sauce lover you’ll rejoice with this creation.
Madras Lamb Kofta (RM40) is skewers of minced lamb flavored with a Mediterranean twist and served with a creamy yoghurt sauce.
Brazilian Style Grilled Lamb (RM50). Juicy lamb rack grilled to perfection served with a hint of spicy and sour dressing. Recommended!
And then we had pizza galore! You know how much Ethan and I (even Darling) love pizza so we really enjoyed the remaining of what is served that evening…
Taj Mahal Naan Bread Pizza (RM28) uses naan bread as a base topped with chunks of chicken tandoori with feta cheese and coriander.
The Beijing Style Pizza (RM30) got everyone raving. It’s our first time having chicken pizza with black fungus and plum sauce and I must say this is genius! I’ll definitely come back here for this.
Hunter Valley Pizza (RM32) – tender sliced venison mixed with sweet apple. Truly for the adventurous but I love it for the fruity flavor.
Neptune Pizza (RM32). This seafood pizza will make you swim in the ocean in delight. Seafood lovers (me) will definitely love this!
After having all of the above, we are on the verge of bursting our seams but no meal is complete without some desserts and here at The Mix, their dessert is to die for.
Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding (RM30). I can have this over and over and over again. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
We enjoyed every bits of dinner that evening. Chef Francis has certainly put up a great effort in creating this bold new menu. Every piece is a beautiful work of art.
Thank you for having us over dinner.
