Chinese New Year dinner at Phoenix Restaurant, Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie
Chinese New Year is a fortnight away. Before we go off for our CNY break, let us share with you a delicious home feel dinner we had at Phoenix Restaurant, Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie recently. Though a regular patron of Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie, this is our very first time dining at Phoenix.
 1, Jalan Usahawan U1/8,
 Seksyen U1 Shah Alam
 40250 Selangor.   Tel: +603-78039090
We walked into this lovely table settings with complimentary Mandarin Oranges for us. I love Mandarin Oranges!
Chinese New Year set menu at Phoenix Restaurant priced from RM 338.00++ to RM 1,588.00++ We ordered their Golden Phoenix Set (10 pax) – RM1188++ that comes with complementary Brandy-St Remy. Advanced reservation is required for this set.Â
Salmon Yee Sang
As soon as everyone was seated we started our dinner tossing  for prosperity and health with the Salmon Yee Sang. Look at Ethan enjoying the fun. We told him the aim is to toss the salad up to the ceiling and he tried with all his might to do that but of course the yee sang did not fly THAT high :P
Braised Vegetarian Sharkfin Soup with Bamboo Pith and Crab Meat
Next on the menu (to our relief) is braised vegetarian sharkfin soup with bamboo pith and crab meat. Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie does not serve real shark fin and we applaud them for their brave commitment. Seriously I don’t understand why people would even opt to have real sharkfin soup as the one we had here is so similar to the real thing I won’t know it’s vegetarian if it was not written on the menu!Â
Crispy Roasted Chicken and Mongolian Sauce
The roasted chicken came as a surprise. I mean I was surprised with the presentation of this dish. Fruit skewers were strewn on top the chicken. The first thing I took was the skewers and my oh my, they are pretty appetizing and compliments the roasted chicken well.Â
Steamed Siakap Teow Chew Style
My favourite fish dish was served beautifully decorated. I simply love the food presentation here.
I also love the combination of pickled vegetables and sourish gravy, making this dish an extremely appetizing one.Â
Stir Fried Prawn with Vietnamese Sauce
Darling’s favourite is this prawn dish served with mantao. Another beautifully presented dish. I love dipping the mantao into the generous serving of Vietnamese sauce while Darling got his fingers busy plucking the head off the prawns for me. Talk about being pampered :D
Braised Two Kind Of Mushroom with Layer Beancurd and Vegetable
Ethan’s favourite is the brocolli and carrots in this dish. Generous amount of Macadamia nuts were thrown into this vegetable dish. I love the mushrooms. I’d swear I thought they are NOT mushrooms but some sea ‘creatures’ but I was assured they are mushrooms alright!Â
Seafood Fried Rice
Rice fried with canned dice fish and black bean served with century eggs and generous ginger shreds. Perfect combination but I have to be honest here. Though I love the fried rice, I had more of the century eggs as they are simply irresistible !Â
Chilled Rambutan and Nata De Coco Syrup
One of the diner casually mentioned that the above dessert looks like a Tom Yam dish to which we all chuckled as it was quite true. First look at you might be fooled into thinking it IS Tom Yam but it is not. It’s a refreshingly cooling drink thanx to the mint leaves.Â
Crispy Fried New Year Cake and Pancake
First look I fell in love with the cute pineapple pancake (which turns out to be red bean pancake) but to my surprise, it is the crispy fried new year cake (nian gao) that stole the spotlight. Crispy on the outer yet chewy on the inside, this is just perfect!
It was a wonderful dinner and with that, we are ready to pack up and usher the year of the Snake.
May this Chinese New Year of the Snake be a great one for all of us!Â
huatttttt ahhhh! :D
Ok, all you sharks can sigh with relief… Muahahahaha!!!!! Bamboo pith? What’s that? Same as bamboo shoots – rheumatism, arthritis? Had 2-3 slices in the soup I had once, gout for a week – could not walk. Tsk! Tsk! Eeee…I like the last dessert, so nice.
Ooh..you are making me hungry again. Ethan has grown up a lot. He looks taller now.
Thumbs up for your choice and restaurant choice for not choosing sharkfin soup. I have not been consuming this “delicacy” for so many years. Let them swim freely in the ocean :)
I love the chicken with mongolian sauce with the skewers on top of it. Before you left for CNY, I would like to wish you and your family a happy and prosperous new year.
wow, the food looks delicious! :)
Thumbs up for the vegetarian sharkfin!
Crispy Fried New Year Cake and Pancake captured my eyes also. So early, you guys got to eat such scrumptious CNY dishes. Me so envy!
Big applause to them, no shark fin. Well done. I like the vege with mushrooms, served with Macadamia nuts too, yummy.
Le yum!!! Unfortunately the place is a bit too far for me le :X
wow..such a grand meal you all had!!! Love all the dishes there… love only.. too bad cannot try.. hahaha…
