Fractional Laser Procedure | Premier Clinic
Since I started treatment for my acne scars three weeks ago, I know I won’t stop at just PRP. You can read about PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) procedure in my earlier post. Dr Vanessa already told me I will need more than just PRP for my scars and suggested Subcision or Laser treatments but I wasn’t ready for neither of them at that time.
AFTER PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma injection helped to a certain extend especially with the less severe scars on my face but because I have a lot of deep acne scars it’s only inevitable that I explore the many aesthetic laser treatments out there.
I have since did my research and decided to try Fractional Laser in the hope for a more refined skin.
I read that fractional laser is the preferred choice by many as it not only treats acne scars, it also reduces the signs of aging on the skin by removing age spots, crow’s feet and fine lines.
The downtime for fractional laser is not too long; about four days hence it is ideal as it won’t take too much time off my regular schedule.
So there I was back in Premier Clinic but this time in the KL City branch as Darling had work around that area that day so I tagged along. I needed him to fetch me home as I did not want to go around on my own as I wasn’t sure how I’d look like after the procedure.
Fractional Laser Procedure
Prior to the laser procedure, my skin is thoroughly cleansed and numbing cream applied for 30 minutes.
Fractional laser is a treatment that uses a device to deliver a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones.

Fractional laser targets both the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin. It works by micro ablating a fraction of areas on the skin at a time leaving small wounds bridged by healthy tissue for faster healing.
Gust of cool air is blown over the skin where laser is continuously shot to provide relief to the skin during procedure.
I feel a slight stinging sensation with each shot with more sensation around my temples and above the lips where the skin are more delicate.
The laser leaves an even spotted pattern on treated areas.
The above picture is taken immediately after the laser procedure is completed. I did not look as bad as I had imagined myself to be. In my mind, I expected a tomato red face but nope, I still look normal enough to hitch a Grab ride home.
Eventhough I was given a cool towel treatment immediately after the procedure, I still feel a tingling or rather burning sensation similar to having sunburn during my journey home. I had expected this though as Dr Nigel has already reminded me about it.
I quickly grabbed a cooling mask from my refrigerator and applied it on my face. The mask helps soothe the heat and my skin feels normal again after 20 minutes.
It is extremely important to avoid the sun for the following few days or weeks. Dr Nigel keeps reminding me to moisturize and apply sunblock religiously.
My skin only turned red in the evening of Day 1 and the redness lasted through Day 2. There are plenty of red dots (blood scab) on my face and the skin feels tight. The feeling is similar to having Peel Off Mask on my face; as the mask dries up, we usually feel our skin tightening. The only difference is we are not allowed to pick/scrape/peel our skin.
By Day 3 my skin has turned dark, dry and began flaking. This is the most challenging period as I had to prevent myself from peeling the skin flakes. The urge is extremely strong so it is a constant battle between the mind and my fingers. Thank goodness I have a very strong willpower so I did not pick. I let my skin shed naturally.

By Day 5, I applied moisturizer and sunblock and went about my normal routine with a mask on. The reason for the mask is to shield my peeling skin from the public’s preying eyes. Day by day as the old skin shed, my new skin is revealed and it feels softer and refined.

My journey to smoother skin is still a work in progress. Fractional laser is not a one time off treatment especially for someone with deep acne scars like me. After each treatment, the indentation on my skin is reduced so I’ll need to repeat the procedure maybe a couple more times to achieve a more flawless skin.Â
As Dr Nigel mentioned, we can’t rush beauty. For now, my skin is healing and collagen is building up.Â
Here is my video of the entire Fractional Laser procedure and Dr Nigel’s explanation on the treatment if you are interested to know more:

Thank you but I’m not all done yet. I would love to repeat the procedure again but I’ll let the skin heal first for the time being as it is building collagen at the moment.
I did similar fractional laser treatment but the outcome is not as red as yours :P
Where did you get it done? Got picture for me to see?
I did mine at Xeoul Clinic @ Empire Subang, but too bad I don’t have photo to show you :P
