Young Chef Competition
For the second year in a row, my boys celebrated Mother’s Day with me at Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Besides good food, the other reason we chose to celebrate here is the opportunity for Ethan to participate in their Young Chef competition. There is no registration fee to participate in this competition. All participants have to be accompanied by two paying adults who are parents or guardians of the respective participants. Their sponsors this year are Nestle, Leagoo, Tourism Selangor, Kidzania, A Cut Above and Luckylogy.
Running for the 5th consecutive year, it is Ethan’s second time participating.
The competition is divided into two categories; Kinder Cook for kids’ age 3 to 6 years old and Young Chef for children age 7 to 11.
Mothers always have their children first in mind and it remained the same on Mother’s Day. Nothing beats seeing them happy on my special day and it is made more memorable seeing Ethan participating and having fun with other contestants.
Ayden will be able to participate in Kinder Cook next year should we celebrate here again
I saw the above and it just melts my heart. When I am old, it doesn’t matter how much wealth I have, what matters most is if I still have my kids to hold my hand and bring me out for a meal every once in a while.
Ethan showed me a heart-shaped deep fried squid he found amongst the ordinary shaped fried squid
Let me show you some of the food served on that day:
Bite-sized burgers.
Croissants.
Satay.
Mixed vegetable with meat.
Desserts.
Popcorns!
This is my favourite – Bubur Durian. Such a delightful bowl of durian dessert with real durian pulp in a thick creamy broth. Ooh lala! I can’t have enough of this!
Fruits.
Alright, now let’s look at the Kinder Cook competition. This is where all the cutie pies are as Kinder Cook is open for kids’ age 3 to 6 years old.
The Chef will first demonstrate to the little ones what they should do.
Just look at all those! If Ayden were to participate, I am sure 60% of those will end up in his tummy
There they go! Little Kinder Cooks busy at work with proud and beaming parents cheering closely.
A Kinder Cook busy at work.
A Kinder Cook busy curi makan
I told you. THIS is what Ayden will do if he participates! LoL!
After the Kinder Cook session is done, it is time for the older children to participate in the Young Chef category.
Ethan listening intently to the Chef demonstrating how to make a penguin bento.
All suit up and ready to make his Penguin family bento.
And… here is his penguin family. He only managed to make 3 penguins. He did not have enough ingredients to make 4 but I told him it is okay. They only require 2 penguins yet he made 3 so I am already very happy.
Aww, his penguins have a heart on their chests
The bentos are then presented to the judges. Ethan’s is the one labelled as number 3.
Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur invited 10 children from Rumah Charis orphanage home to participate in the competition as well and it is such a nice sight to see them cheering each other on.
The winners were announced shortly after.
Champion for both categories walks away with RM500 cash, trophy, hamper and 1 x Hi Tea Buffet voucher. 1st Runner Up walks away with RM300 cash, trophy and 1 x Hi Tea Buffet voucher and 2nd Runner Up with RM200 cash, trophy and 1 x Hi Tea Buffet voucher.
Ethan did not win anything but he is already a winner to me

Ethan with his biggest fan, little bro Ayden.
A clown went around entertaining the kids’ requests for balloons and more.
There was also a complementary Nail Colouring service for Mothers from 12noon to 4pm that day.
I had a great time feasting and spending time with my favourite boys (and man) on my special day. Thank you Darling for always making time for us and thank you Eastin for organising such a lovely and meaningful event.
Yes, I agree with you that Ethan is a winner too! His 3 penguins look so cute! Did you eat them at the end? ;)
Awwwwwww!!! Ayden’s too small to join!
So nice, so cute, Ethan’s penguins. Did he win? 3 is good, Chinese people do not like 4.
His penguins won and warmed his mommy’s heart already. That’s a winner there. So cute with the heart on it.
Minu burgers looked cute.
Nice. Both kids can have fun next year. Yes, win or not win, the only matters is the kids are happy and having fun.
Hahaha no lah, 1 more year, he will learn not to curi makan already. I have faith in Ayden XD
OMG! I want the bubur durian!!!
Oh…the penguins are so cute la. I like how he has paid the small details in the bento.
Well done Ethan!
