Si Chuan Dou Hua Chinese New Year menu

Chinese New Year is less than a month away. Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday we welcomed 2015 and now it’s almost CNY already?

My family was invited to a CNY feast at Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur last Thursday. It was our first Chinese New Year lou sang for the year so I made sure we dressed up for it. I was extremely happy to still be able to fit into my one and only cheongsam I bought before I got married! #shioksendiri

Submerryn and family

My family and I tossing our first yee sang of the year. Now, let’s rewind a little bit before the yee sang was tossed. Let’s take a look at the yee sang first.

Si Chuan Dou Hua is gearing up to welcome the Year of the Goat with a variety of set menus and Yee Sang creations. Paying tribute to the Year of the Goat, the Barbeque Lamb Yee Sang was introduced to add to its selection of eight choices. It is priced at RM98nett for half a portion and RM148nett for a full portion.

Now, let’s toss to a healthy and prosperous year ahead :)

Parkroyal CNY tea

Si Chuan Dou Hua’s signature Eight Treasures Tea of red dates, Chinese wolfberries, chrysanthemum, dried longans, dried lily buds, Jasmine tea leave, ‘mai dong’(麦冬) and rock sugar. I simply love this naturally sweet tea.

Parkroyal tea pouring

Just look at the tea master pouring tea from the long spout teapot into Darling’s teacup without a single spill! I don’t know why Darling is avoiding the tea master that way. Maybe he was afraid he might get in his way but fret not lah Darling, the tea master is clearly an expert. Ethan is obviously impressed!

Parkroyal CNY soup

We started off our dinner with double-boiled soup. There are several types of soups available depending on the set that is chosen.

Parkroyal Chicken dish

Steamed Village Chicken with Dried Seafood and Chinese Herbs

The aroma of the herbs is so enticing that I just had to take a slurp of the gravy thinking that I can just drink it like soup but ooops, it is not meant for gulping like soup as it is slightly on the salty side. It’s good to drizzle onto steamed white rice though.

Parkroyal Prawn dish

Stir-fried Large Prawns with Egg White

When this dish was served, at a glance I thought it was prawn salad and I assume it is a cold dish but I was wrong again. It is actually served smoking hot.  Ayden enjoyed this dish very much. Thank goodness he can eat egg without issues. What I like about the prawn served completely shelled this way is that I do not need to dirty my fingers. Dining with a toddler, I tend to appreciate everything and anything that helps to make it easier for us.

Parkroyal CNY dish

Braised Seasonal Vegetables, Bean Curd and Dried Oyster with Pumpkin Puree

We had next this beautifully presented dish of bean curd and pumpkin.

Parkroyal CNY

Let’s take a look at what’s in it besides the bean curd and pumpkin puree. There’s ginkgo, lotus seed, mussel, fat choy (black moss), snow peas, mushroom and chicken. This is definitely a must have for any family dining in as the bean curd and pumpkin puree easily go well with the kids while the rest of the condiments will certainly satisfy the adults.

Parkroyal CNY smoked duck fried rice

Fried Rice with Black Mushroom, Lotus Seed and Smoked Duck

For someone who doesn’t fancy duck, Darling surprisingly finds the smoked duck pleasant. The smoked duck gives this rice dish a distinctly bold flavour.

Parkroyal CNY dessert

Chilled Grapefruit Sago

For dessert we had this refreshing chilled grapefruit sago with strawberry and pomelo.

Parkroyal CNY nin gao

Steamed Nin Gao with Crispy Oat

It was also my very first time eating a pale nin gao. I always thought nin gao has to be dark brown in colour but apparently the chef told us there are two types; this pale nin gao and the darker nin gao. Taste wise it doesn’t make much difference to me but the crispy oat really brings out the fragrant aroma of this special dessert.

Si Chuan Dou Hua reunion meal starts from RM158nett per table of 2 to RM2188nett per table of 10. For dining reservations, call 03-2147 0088.

Thank you for this review. Ayden is so cute eyeing the yee sang in that photo. I am so so going for the prawns egg whites and the duck fried rice. They really have set option for two only? cos only 2 of us plan to go.
