Beautiful Nyonyas
Haha.. Guess who are the beautiful Nyonyas? Bluek ^_^
We had a Nyonya night out at The Tranquerah last night :D The Tranquerah, The Strand is the place I always frequent when I’m missing my mommy’s food for this is the place that I find serves authentic Malacca cuisine almost similar to my Mom’s. Read more about it here.
Aunty Florence and I in our kebaya Nyonya. I can’t believe I actually got Aunt Florence to camwhore with me using my iPhone! LoL!
Uncle John (Aunt Florence’s husband) said I’m blessed to still be wearing a kebaya at this age and era as the number of Nyonyas in kebayas kind of declined these days especially OUT of Malacca.
For the first time in my life, I watched how gula ketuk/ting ting candy is made right before my very eyes!
It started with a very dark color tone and gradually became brighter after it is being pulled, twirl and twisted while it is still very, very hot!
They also served this. It’s been soooo long since I had this that I have forgotten what we even call this! It has assam boi in it. My childhood favourite!
Aunty Florence launched her latest cookbook “Resipi Warisan Nyonya” today.
It was also The Tranquerah’s FIRST anniversary! Wah… this place turns ONE already. I felt like it was just yesterday I met Aunty Florence, Alan Yun and all here when they first opened. Look at them so selamba wearing SARONG! Hehe.. my Dad macam tu jugak at home!
Chef Florence Tan and I a year ago *recycled pic*
I know. I wasn’t wearing a kebaya back then and I remembered Aunty Florence saying that she wants to see me in kebaya the next time she sees me and I did today :D
It felt so nice to be surrounded with Nyonyas (and Babas) tonight. I wish more of such happenings can be held in KL as I kind of missed all Nyonya events being held in Malacca.
I didn’t know you call those ting ting as gula ketuk. LOL! They still sell it nowadays?
Hai Beautiful Auntie Nyonya.. Oh, I haven’t tried that gula ketuk yet.. Where to find??

I don’t know the “ting ting” sweet is called gula ketuk too. I used to have this when I’m a kid. Seems like it is kinda hard to find someone selling this nowadays.

I love to see ladies in traditional nyonya kebaya – so classy, so elegant, so attractive. Those spaghetti straps…sorry lah!!! No fight!
I still remember back in those good old days when I used to watch aunty Florence on TV! :)

Ais krim Malaysia la Merryn… Cikgu Florence was one of the cikgu in our school ..SM Lembah Keramat..

Cikgu Florence ajar apa kat skolah tu? Memasak?
Haha Alan wearing glasses! I have only been to Tranquerah once last year when Alan invited us there to eat and then blog about his restaurant. Love the food there, esp. the ayam ponteh. Wah, you’re very happening eh?
Alan’s glasses is camwhore glass, tipu one! >_< You know what I'm so tempted to do? To poke through those spec and if he shouts I'll just say, "GOT DUST"! Hahahahahha….
You look so beautiful in the red kebaya blouse is is Aunty Florence. I remember the candy and the ice cream. My mum used to buy me that when I was a little girl as a treat for good behavior.
Watching how the gula ketuk is made must be fun!
I reallly love nyonya outfits!! :D
Wahh, the food looks so delicious and you look so sweet in the kebaya :)
Are you related to aunty florence?
