What to Expect during a Chiropractic Adjustment
Are you:
- Suffering from regular headaches and migraines. …
- Experiencing frequent or constant back or neck pain with numbing of the legs or hands. …
- Have a limited range of motion with your muscles and joints often bothering you. …
My hubby does and what he did was to consult a doctor at a hospital. They ran an MRI scan on him as well as put him through a course of physio therapy sessions. His doctor also prescribed some medications to control his pain.
After some time, my hubby realized that those medications are merely masking his pain hence he decided to consult a chiropractor. A chiropractor is a health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine.
You may opt for chiropractic care if you are experiencing aching joints or muscle pain that is affecting your ability to get through the day, or preventing you from doing your regular activities. It can also help maintain healthy spine and joint function, even if you do not have painful symptoms.
We went to TAGS Chiropractic & Rehabilitation as my friend recommended for us to see Dr. Alastor, the chiropractor based in Subang Jaya.Â
ASSESSMENT
The first thing we did when we met Dr. Alastor was to furnish him with a copy of my hubby’s medical report from the hospital.Â
After going through the medical report, Dr. Alastor had a quick Q&A session with my hubby to understand his condition further.Â
A chiropractor’s eyes lies in their hands. Dr. Alastor proceeded to do a thorough assessment of my hubby’s condition using his hands.
Dr. Alastor requested my husband to mimic some of his movements to gauge his condition.Â
After examining my husband, Dr. Alastor concluded that my hubby is leaning towards sensory issues. Thank goodness he does not suffer from muscle atrophy or in layman terms, my hubby does not suffer from any muscle loss or thinning of the muscle mass.
MUSCLE RELEASE
Next, my hubby is strapped onto the drop table for the muscle release procedure.Â
The drop table technique uses a gentle impulse to free up restrictions in the spine.
My hubby lays down on the table, with the tight area over the drop region of the table. The drop section of the table is raised up, then the chiropractor places his hand on the affected region, performs a gentle impulse, and the bones are mobilized by the section of the table dropping away.Â
ADJUSTMENT
The final touch is the most kancheong part – the adjustment part.Â
Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (chiropractors) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of this procedure, also known as spinal manipulation, is to improve spinal motion and improve our body’s physical function.
Yikes! Cracking sound can be clearly heard from where I stood. But my hubby said, “Oh so shiok!” after all that cracking.Â
Cracking of the neck. Crack! Crack!Â
My hubby feels a great sense of relief after each adjustment procedure. He feels lighter and not so tensed. He also feels less pressure on his back bones.Â
Reactions following a chiropractic adjustment vary greatly from person to person. These may range from a great sense of exhilaration immediately following the adjustment, to a feeling of aching and soreness. The most common reaction to spinal manipulation is aching or soreness in the spinal joints or muscles.
If this aching or soreness occurs, it is usually within the first few hours post-treatment and does not last longer than 24 hours after the chiropractic adjustment.Â
***********
True to my friend’s recommendation, Dr. Alastor exudes a very calm demeanor. He makes us feel less anxious and explains very clearly before proceeding with any procedure and adjustment.Â
My hubby’s treatment doesn’t end here. He will need follow-up treatments for his condition. He will be required to come again at least twice a week for the next 6 weeks with each session running about 30 minutes to an hour.Â
