First milk tooth extraction and tooth fairy
When I was teaching, I encountered many of my students having their permanent tooth/teeth growing behind their milk teeth making those permanent teeth grow in such mess. I often wondered why their parents did not bring them to the dentist to get those milk teeth extracted. Ethan is in Primary 1 now and I’ve been monitoring his teeth extra carefully as I see that his jaw is growing bigger and his milk teeth getting wider apart.
True enough, last Saturday he complained of toothache and when we checked, we saw his permanent teeth peeking out behind his milk teeth. His milk teeth was still nicely intact so we can’t pull it out on our own.
At the dentist. We walked in without an appointment on a Sunday. The dentist’s slot was full and it is approaching his lunch break. But because he saw how ‘kancheong’ we were, he decided to squeeze us in. He even advised us to bring Ethan for lunch first because he wont be able to eat after the extraction. We hurriedly brought Ethan for a quick 10 minutes lunch and went back to the dental clinic to wait for our turn.
Ethan warming up to Dr. Tan.
Dr. Tan here is a very patient dentist. It is our first time here and though he was very busy, he took time to explain to me the next course of action. He even told me it’s okay to just wait for the milk teeth to fall off on its own but I refused. I wanted them extracted immediately but he refused to extract two on the same day. His logic is because it is Ethan’s first time at the dentist we should not scare him by extracting TWO teeth. The pain might be unbearable for him as both his milk teeth are still very much intact and not loose. OK, so his logic makes sense. We decided to extract only one first.Â
He gave Ethan some kind of strawberry gel before the jab. Ethan doesnt like it as he hates strawberry! LoL! He should have chosen the chocolate gel instead.Â
He gave Ethan 2-3 jabs. I’m not too sure how many. He said 3 but I only saw 2. Anyway, Ethan was quite brave lah. No crying, squirming or anything like that. The funny part is after the jab, the dentist asked him several questions yet all Ethan did was look at him blankly. That scared him quite a bit and made him wave his hands in front of Ethan to ask if he is okay. Thank goodness Ethan answered him then that he is alright! Ish this boy…Â
He then proceeded to extract Ethan’s tooth.Â
There, Ethan’s first milk tooth.Â
Dr Tan was very nice to take the tooth and show it to Ethan. He hid his pliers and all from Ethan, not wanting that boy to get frightened by them but I took lots of picture kan? He told me better don’t let Ethan see but I did nevertheless. I believe Ethan should know the real situation.Â
Darling and Ayden stood there watching during the entire procedure while I stood nearer to Ethan to take pictures give him moral support.Â
Milk tooth gone. The dentist told Ethan to go get some ice-cream and we seriously did.Â
It helped to stop the bleeding.
They wrapped Ethan’s tooth and placed it in a small plastic pouch for him to bring home to the tooth fairy.Â
Now, talking about tooth fairy. Ethan’s tooth fairy gave him RM50 for that tooth. When Ethan went to school, his friends saw that he lost a tooth. They asked him if tooth fairy visited him. He said YES. They asked him what he got. He said RM50. They asked him why so little? Apparently, they all received RM100 from their tooth fairy! *Rage mode ON* Tooth fairy why you NO FAIR one?! Why give other kids RM100 but RM50 only to my kid? Now Ethan is asking me why he gets half of what his friends got. I answered ‘because he is very brave’ and then he asked me, ‘what kind of answer is that? If brave should get MORE what!” Argh! I also don’t know lah! Last time I pull out my own teeth apa I dapat? Ice cream only lah yet I was so happy over the moon already! Kids these days! >_<
P/S: Ethan reads my blog entries so please be discreet about your thoughts on tooth fairies, tq :)
*faints* I’ve this phobia for dentists.
I think I’ve only been to the dentist like once or twice @_@
I heard we are supposed to go for check up and clean up annually. maybe I should start doing that…
Nowadays the tooth fairy is so generous one?? Mine not so generous, only a gold coin boh. Haha.
very good boy, he wasnt scare at all on his first visit to dentist.
Ethan wonders how the tooth fairy is strong enough to remove the tooth from under his pillow and replace with money. And he wonders too where the fairy gets the money from :)
Hern hern tooth all drop out … no need to extract. But he has filling done to his molars ..Thanks to his sweet tooth.
Ethan oso need to get fillings done next week. So weird as he doesnt like sweets and candies. But he likes chocolates la.
Interesting! The big one also got her milk tooth out last week!
It just dropped out while eating ice cream though, didn’t need to go to dentist.
I remember as a kid my grandma tied my loose milk teeth to a door and asked my cousin to open it from the other side! -_-
When I was younger, my teeth either dropped by themselves or my dad will help pull them out. But Ethan’s tooth was not loose and we did not want to wait, hence the dentist visit. Lol at your Grandma’s method! That is scary!!
Merryn, look at Ethan so brave… my son’s adult tooth is coming out too. This adult tooth is slight bigger size than his milk tooth.. so the dentist said probably must take two teeth out. One got loosen, then dentist just easily pull out. That one Calvin was ok… Then the following week, the dentist asked me to brought him back for injection to take out the second teeth. in or der for the adult tooth to grow out nicely… so have to take out the second one. Calvin was scared looking the needle – cry out loud jor. We took a long time inside the room just to consult him… Then finally, he got 2-3 injection just to remove that tooth.
Hahaha… I never give my son money though he knows the tooth fairy…. He got himself a set of LEGO….kekeke
For Ethan, the dentist did not let him see the needle and whole. He kept talking and distracting Ethan, asking him how an ant bite feels like and then he gave him the jab while the assistant covered Ethan’s eyes. So first time Ethan was ok. Now he read this entry dy he said next visit he’ll feel afraid, knowing too much dy! >_<
He even allowed your whole family included this mother with camera go into the room, haha!
I use my iPhone take pics. I dont carry my camera with me anymore :)
love the tooth fairy! i used to get 50 sen, not 50 ringgit! lol. and a mini toothpaste tube. (:
