Goodbye…
Don’t talk to me right now. I’m very, very sad.
In 2005, shortly before our wedding, my friend
VinSen (remember that
Hot Air Balloon lookalike?) shifted to his new home. Before shifting, he presented us with a baby tree. It was so little that it could fit in our car. Darling and I happily planted it in front of our house; our so-called
‘Love Tree’.
Years on and it grew into a mighty tree, providing a nice shade, look and feel to our house. A couple of nights ago, heavy rain and storm caused havoc in our neighbourhood. Many trees fell and unfortunately, our tree was a bit affected.
Today, Darling tried to see if he can push it back into position and place some support to it. But, what he found out just crushed my heart to pieces.
Our tree. See how it was already tilting to one side after the storm?
He discovered that the tree was infested with termites! Within minutes, it was drenched with
Chemicide 75+ to kill the visible termites. Within hours, it was brought down. It was THAT sudden! We didn’t have much time to think about it. The word TERMITE was enough to trigger the panic button and now…
THIS is all that is left of it. Tomorrow, it will be completely gone as Darling will continue chopping it and will be disposing it away. The soil will need to be treated and the house will need to be checked for termites.
As I type this post, tears formed in my eyes. Kimmy told me, “it’s ok.. then now, the three of you plant a new tree..”. Thank you Kimmy. I never see it that way earlier and it IS a little comforting to know that.
But I am still saddened that our tree had to go and all I could do was just stand there and look. I’m going to miss it a lot and I’m going to take some time off to calm myself down..
cheer up dear. everything alive has to go one day! but poor tree, it was infested by termites :( bloody termites!
I hope the termite wont go into your house :(. better get the pest control people to come and check the inside of your house…just in case…
The tree would be alive…in you and William. What love could be better than those you shared with William?
Think of the consequences if u keep tree tree… so.. in life too at times.. one need to make sacrifices to let the others live…wah.. sound so dramatic!!! hey, not to worry.. the tree will understand.. good memories will remain..
This is the first picture i got to see the tree, and yes it's as beautiful as you've described it in words all this years. I'm also devastated that a tree this beautiful had to go because of a reason like termites! However, I'm happy for the memories, thoughts, and what you three could then do next. Hope you don't give up on them trees. Maybe the next one can offer some shade to cool the breeze around your house too, and maybe for Ethan to climb and make a tree-house ;)
Sometimes in life, we just have to learn to let go… Your time will come when your kids are grown and leave you – the empty nest syndrome, like me! Sobsss!!!
such a beautiful tree, and euwww to the termintes.
oh dear..sorry about the tree. maybe you get another tree?
come come, I take you go the the nursery, buy a new tree and you plant together with William and Ethan.. then instead of a 2 ppl tree, it's now a 3 ppl tree..
oh dear….that is sad.But in a way good thing you found out about the termites. And maybe can grow a potted plant in memory of the tree! :)Hope you feel better soon.
auww.. its okie. :) cheer up! =D
Gosh…termites!! Kill them! Kimmy is right. Now go plant a new tree (the 3 of you). Cheer up.
That's terrible. I hate termites! I hope your house is spared. don't be sad ok, dear. The tree will always be in your heart.

["Don't talk to me right now. I'm very, very sad."]Got your message loud and clear, know how miserable you are going through right now not talking but blogging. Sorry things did not work out as what you expected but gotta accept the facts of life as it's beyond your control. Agree with suituapui looking on a brighter side perhaps this could be a lesson on letting go. Time will heal. Take care.
The tree does take so much of time to grow till that tall…the termites must have been destroying its root…Don't be so sad la..get the soil in health again and plant a 'Family Tree'.
Cheer up!
Bad termite. But then your must not be distracted by the situation. Make sure the termites does not move into your home.Cheer up dear!
I am sorry to hear that. But I guess "goodbye" is part of human life. In fact, in a matter of months I'll be waving goodbye to some of my dear friend :-(
