21. First formal lesson
Last Saturday I brought Ethan to visit my ex-colleagues in Vital Years. Vital Years is an Early English Literacy Centre catered for children from the age of 2 – 10 years old. As soon as he entered the centre, he was so at home. He went straight towards the other children there and started playing with them. I left the classroom leaving him behind. I was expecting some drama but to my surprise he did not even bother when he saw me walking out. Looking at how calm he was, da boss decided to try giving him his first formal English lesson. Again, he surprised me as he was such an obedient boy that day. He took instructions from a stranger like an angel! Ethan loves books, so I guess when he saw new books around, he was interested to explore. Maybe he thought he was in a bookstore? I don’t know what he was thinking, but he sure was enjoying himself there that day. He survived the 1 hour lesson without a scratch.
It was definitely nice to see him enjoying his lesson that day. I am certainly keen to enrol him for the Vital Years reading programme but I think he is still too young rite now. I’ll let him grow a little bit more and re access him maybe after CNY next year? What I like about this programme is they mix lesson with play. Most importantly, this programme is stress-free for little children. I do not wish to be a kiasu mom and stresses my child to the limit. He has to enjoy his childhood.
What I saw that day was Ethan having a nice time socialising with kids of various races and ages. (Although sleepy coz it was his nap time!) And knowing all the facilitators there personally certainly brings a little bit of relieve knowing that my Ethan will be in good hands *if I were to enrol him there in the near future*
