What is Python and why is it important?
What is PYTHON?
I am not computer savvy so I have no idea what PYTHON is until recently. We were all locked at home due to the pandemic, bored to tears and then I saw it – in my email, a promotion for e-learning on Python from 5T3M.
I asked my boys if they are game to give it a try and they looked at me wide eyed, as clueless as myself. Since we have nothing better to do at home, I decided to sign them up for Introduction to Python Fundamentals with an e-coach that consists of 6 lessons. They were having a promo of FREE 2 + Pay 4 sessions only for RM130 then. The normal price for this package is RM195.
After signing up, the boys were allocated several slots to choose from. Upon deciding the day and time for their lessons, they were given a thorough instruction on how to log in complete with their username and password.
Lessons were conducted via ZOOM meeting with an e-coach in real-time guidance. The boys’ coach was Ms Misaki and they loved her as she was very patient especially with Ayden as he is only 7 years old and requires more guidance compared to big brother Ethan.
Lessons are conducted in a fun and visual environment for children to better relate and understand. They walk through a virtual Maze in the Sense Study platform; powered by SenseTime, a global leading AI company.
By navigating a character through the maze, they experience in real-time and first hand how the code works.Â
From what I observed, the fundamentals of Python is not too complicated. I was pretty worried Ayden won’t be able to follow the lessons but surprisingly, he understands and is even able to complete his tasks and answer quizzes.Â
For the boys, they treat their lessons as a challenge to complete a game. At each level, the tutor will give them a task. The boys are encouraged to complete their tasks independently but the tutor is always ready to guide them should they get stuck. Even then, the tutor won’t be blindly giving out solutions. Instead, she will drop hints in order for the boys to use their thinking skills to try to solve their problems.Â
That is a great idea to get the boys busy and learn new things. Kids nowadays are really tech savvy. My boys been watching those gamers youtubers avidly.
Yes, good to get both of them started on programming early.
This brings back my memory of uni studying computer programming languages, back then Python was the “new kid on the block”
