Ayden’s Milestone: Cycling on two wheels
Ayden has been cycling Ethan’s hand-me-down bicycle with the aid of balancing wheels since October last year.
I blogged about it here. He loves cycling very much and will cycle around the court while we play badminton or he’ll follow me on the cement path when I jog.
He cycles up and down stones resulting in his balancing wheels getting out of shape and not able to support his bicycle properly.Â
Yesterday, I noticed him cycling silently with the balancing wheel up in the air. Unknowingly, he was actually balancing himself to cycle on two wheels. I asked him if he would like me to remove the balancing wheels but he refused. After I explained to him that he is actually already cycling on two wheels, he got excited and requested the father to remove the balancing wheels.Â
I held onto his bicycle while he cycled on two wheels and when I feel that he already found his balance, I let go. Surprisingly he did it. He cycled on two wheels. Just like that!
Excitedly, I grabbed my phone and told the daddy to jaga Ayden and this is the result:Â
My dare-devil boy happily cycling on two wheels.
Today, he did not want to nap because he was excited to go to the playground to try cycling again. He did better today. He cycled with more confidence and is able to start and stop on his own.Â
He did fall twice but he got up and cycle again. Such a fighter this boy.Â
Now that both my boys can cycle independently, I’m sure we’ll have many cycling activities together in the near future as I love cycling. I gave up cycling after I had Ethan and am so glad we can start cycling again ♥
Probably wise to wear a helmet :) My then 6yo son had a bicycle accident 2 years ago and it was the helmet that saved him. We were also just cycling around the neighborhood but accidents can happen. Better safe than sorry.
Yes I think so too. We’ll go helmet hunting this weekend :)
Woo hoo! Quite an achievement! I still remember my very first time on two wheels – I ended up crashing into an enormous garbage bin.
LoL! What an ‘adventure’ you had. I had a smooth sailing transition from 4 wheels to 2 wheels. It was similar as Ayden. I cycled on 4 wheels until one day I realised I can cycle on two.
well done to Ayden! now all of you can go cycling as a family.
Yes. What a happy day for me. But I guess we’ll need to get some safety gears first esp for Ayden.
Cycle carefully, Ayden. Have fun! These days, they dress up in all kinds of gear to go and cycle, looking like Ultraman or that Satria Baja Hitam character. Eyewwwwwww!!!!
Well done!
My Jamie still can’t pedal. Keep pedalling backward. Lol.
Ayden grew up so fast! That would be really fun when the whole family go cycling together. Someday you guys might appear in the race of Tour De Langkawi!
Bravo Ayden! Sam only know how to do this recently :P
The last video, she’s like doing stunt actions lah!
