Beautiful Mooncake Festival Memories with Tai Zi Heen, Pullman KLCC
Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences is commemorating the celestial mid-autumn festival from 15 August to 15 September 2016 with a creative but no-frills integrated treasure box, loaded with festive mooncake gems.
The simple yet presentable treasure box can be upcycle into a personalised container; perfect as a reusable item to store jewelleries and knick-knacks preventing wasteful practice of discarding mooncake boxes away.
Eight flavours to choose from with 4 each from the baked mooncakes and another 4 from the mini snow skin mooncakes selection.
My favourite mooncake from Tai Zi Heen goes to their Chocolate and Whisky mini snow skin mooncake.
Chocolate and Whisky Mini Snow Skin Mooncakes (RM25/piece)
It caught me by surprise how the smooth and sweet whiskey can bring something as universally loved as chocolate to a new height. The smooth spirit tune down the bitterness of the rich chocolate complimenting it well making each bite a satisfying one.
Two new gems will be making their debut in the snow skin category this year at Pullman KLCC – the premium oolong tea with white lotus paste and hazelnut in snow skin as well as the snow skin with lotus paste, dried longan, dried winter melon and osmanthus.
Premium Oolong Tea with White Lotus Paste and Hazelnut (RM25)
Oolong tea has a smooth texture and its bittersweet notes compliments the white lotus paste perfectly making this a refreshing mooncake to savor.
Lotus Paste, Dried Longans, Dried Winter Melon and Osmanthus (RM22)
The ying and yang combination of the cooling winter melon with chunky dried longan makes this a really delectable bite while the fragrant osmanthus gives this mooncake a refreshing flavours at first bite.
Green Tea Snow Skin with Red Bean Compote and Paste (RM22)
If you are looking for something classic, the green tea snow skin with red bean compote and paste will suit you best.Â
Five Variety Nuts, Rum and Raisins (RM32)
This five variety nuts, rum and raisins is my favourite from the baked mooncake category. The presence of rum really enhances the flavour and helps keep the filling moist.Â
Coconut Lotus Paste with Single Egg Yolk (RM30)
This is also an interesting choice. Fresh grated coconut adds fragrance to the moist lotus paste.
The all-time classic White Lotus Paste with Single Egg Yolk and Pandan Paste with Hazelnut baked mooncake will never get out of fashion and can never go wrong with the elderly.Â

Pandan Paste with Hazelnut (RM30)
We had a great time sampling all 8 varieties of mooncake here at Tai Zi Heen while watching chef Jeffrey Kwan’s mooncake making live demo.Â

*runs to the door, keeps looking outside at the gate and thinking…why is the Poslaju van not here yet* Hehehehehehe!!!!
Oh my! I love the treasure box. And yes, can be used as decorative item or keeping jewellery.
Wow! Everything is so nicely done and presented!
I love mooncake, because it is sweet, but it is fattening. I must refrain from eating too much of them.
Chocolate and whisky sounds like a winning combination! The prices for mooncakes are steadily rising. I bought a Starbucks one last weekend, it’s RM 98 for 4 small mooncakes and I bought it coz I thought my dear would like and use the bag it comes with (it’s sold with a leather/cloth tote bag for groceries).
I like how mooncakes are sold with “value added” things nowadays, like this treasure box.
