The Kitchen’s Instant Kampua
I’ve been reading his blog for years and I must tell you that 80 or 90% of his entries MUST touch about kampua noodles somehow or rather that it made me as curious as a cat on what’s so special about these kampua noodles in Sibu. He always teases me about making that trip to Sibu so I can eat all the kampua I want. Ok, maybe he wasn’t teasing. Maybe he seriously means it. He is non other than Arthur, the
beautiful tua pui famous Sibu food blogger. Step into Sibu and he’ll be so happy to share with you what’s best to be eaten and where. He’s THE Sibu food directory.
About a week ago, a crazy Pos Laju dude in a van came honking loudly in front of my house. I just managed to get Ayden to nap when this guy honked so loudly and rang my house bell like a maniac. I’m not expecting anything from anyone so the first thing that came to my mind was this fella came to deliver dunno what credit card from dunno which bank again. I hid inside the house hoping that he will eventually go away but he did not. He kept honking louder and my neighbours are starting to peek to see what’s the commotion all about. By then Ayden jolted up from his nap so what the heck, I opened the door to check which bank is annoying me this time around. But surprise, surprise, it’s a parcel… For ME!
Yes ME! Woo hoo! I don’t always get stuffs from the mailman so you can imagine how happy I am lah.
Ayden was more excited than I am at the parcel. He quickly took it away from me but I grabbed it back to see what’s inside and what a wonderful surprise, it is THE Sibu instant kampua! The one I’ve been reading so much about! KAMPUA!
I heard their noodles are handmade and sun dried and each seasoning sachets are packed manually. You can read about it here.
Arthur is so gonna spank me for this. He told me to boil the noodles for exactly 3 minutes, no more no less. But as I was boiling the noodles, I went out to cut some home grown spring onions for the garnishing and forgotten to time it. Nevertheless years and years of experience in cooking instant noodles came in handy and I managed to get it done just right :P
Toss it dry.
Add the two sachets of seasoning. I think one is lard and another is light soy sauce? Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m upstairs with the kids now and the rest of the noodles are downstairs so I can’t go check ^_^
I think this is the light soy sauce.
Mix well and it’s DONE! Tah-dah! Ladies and gentlemen, presenting…. The Kitchen’s Sibu Instant Kampua!
Wait what? It’s too plain you say? Oh yes, sorry. Arthur did mention that I might want to add some garnishing for the whole works so I did get some stuffs prior to cooking this. Now let’s do this again. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting….. The Kitchen’s Sibu Instant Kampua! Tah-dah!!!!
YES! I know right? IT’s absolutely beautiful! I’m so proud of my masterpiece I think I’m gonna cry! I added char siew slices, minced meat, spring onions and fried onions. It can’t get anymore complete than this. Thank you, thank you!
Now for the acid test..
It’s really delicious! So fragrant and tasty and mind you, the portion is large too! Ethan enjoyed his plate of instant kampua and told me to go get more!
Thank you Arthur for this. We really appreciate it. Finally, I know what Sibu kampua tastes like and now that I know, I can’t get enough of it!
