Amazing balancing butterfly craft
A friend reminded me recently that I made a really cool, magical bird back in our primary school days that got them all awed. Funny that I don’t remember about it until he mentioned it. I’ve forgotten how to do it though so I asked my sister if she remembers and sure enough, she did. We discussed further how to actually make it and today, I made it with Ethan.
This is a really fun craft that doesnt require any fancy materials. You’ll most likely have everything in the kitchen.
Fold a paper half. Draw one half of a butterfly making sure the top wings are way above the butterfly head to enable it to balance. This is also a good time to teach your child about the centre of gravity.
Cut and paste on a soft cardboard. We use a cereal box. Cut out again.
Decorate.
Paste a coin each on the back of the butterfly’s top wings.
The butterfly is ready to balance on your finger now.
It should be able to balance on just about anything. It can even balance on the glue :)
Ethan is really fascinated with it.
Boys being boys.. he made it balance on almost anything. His feet…
Elbows.. Nose.. Anything!
Ayden is interested in the butterfly too.
Meanwhile, my sister and my niece made a balancing bird craft.
Same method except replace the butterfly with a bird.Â
My niece Jaydene and her beautiful balancing bird craft :)
Wahhh.. sgt cantik…
it reminds us of the primary school..many unforgettable memories
how, that is amazing!! never have thought of that!! so clever lah Ethan, thumbs up from Uncle SK!! :)
Wow…very nice ! And ethan made it for his bro. Aiyo …let Ayden come out and play la.
Interesting. Don’t think I ever made that in school. Hmmm…you did not take a pic with the butterfly balancing on Ayden’s head? That would be so so so cute! Muahahahahaha!!!!
Interesting Merryn. That is cool. Will try out this weekend if got time. Thanks for sharing… My son definitely will say it is a magic… hahaha
I have one of this balancing thing. A dragonfly from Thailand.
indeed very simple to make. Maybe I can get the kids to do it too. I am surr they will be thrilled!
Wow, I am curious now. Didn’t play with these before. Thanks for sharing!
I REMEMBER THIS!!! we had a bird. oh myyyy. this is a very very cool craft! i think what i’d do is possibly add another layer after the coins have been taped to conceal the coins. that’d make it a tad more “mysterious” i think. lol.
