A loaf of bread
I first met the owner of this hand 18 years ago when I joined the company he was working in. My impression of him then was he is so Chinese and extremely thrifty. He was a fresh graduate, trying to make enough bread and butter to survive in the Klang Valley and I kid you not, he is ALWAYS having a loaf of bread with him!
It was not love at first sight as I found him to be such a bore. Being young and reckless, I love the city night life. I was always hanging out with my college and ex-schoolmates, going clubbing on every weekend and when I started working, I hung out with my colleagues too but THIS HAND refused to join us as he hates smoky places. He doesn’t drink nor smoke and claimed that these places suffocates him.
People say opposite attracts. Time passed and I wasn’t that reckless teenage girl anymore. He was still with his loaf of bread but I started seeing him in a different light. I got to know him better and I found out that he is a planner. He was driving the company’s car and living in the company’s rented apartment then but he was very positive he’ll make it good one day. He plans ahead for his future unlike me who is living my life one day at a time.
I grew fond of him because he was different. I found it a challenge to capture his heart as he doesn’t seem to be interested in anything except himself and his ‘future’. I was the one who pursue him and one fine day, he fell into my trap. We went out but it did not last long. The cultural and language barrier between us proved to be too hard to handle. We eventually went our separate ways.
After being apart and leading our separate lives, we somehow got back together. This time it was he who asked to give us a second chance. We courted for 7 years before finally tying the knot. Together, we build our castle of dreams.
We were blessed with Ethan, our bundle of joy.
Followed by Ayden, who completes us.
We are one happy family now but guess what? He is still eating his loaf of bread; thrifty of his own needs but always so generous towards us. I’m glad I have this hand to hold and to call my own. He’s the greatest husband and the best father my kids can ask for…
Pooh. Nice and lovely post. Indeed opposite attracts. Like me and my hubby, totally different person but we compromise. Hahah.
