Surprise Rainbow Cake
Ethan’s birthday was in July and his favourite KorKor Xiang wanted to celebrate with him but unfortunately he wasn’t around that time. We tried to celebrate a little later after that but both parties were tied up with dunno what and only managed to meet up today.
Xiang insisted to bake a cake for Ethan just like last year and I thought to meet outside for lunch or dinner but this dude wanted to COOK for Ethan too! Fuiyo… So we made our way to his house on that cool Sunday afternoon after my tuition class and arrived just in time for lunch ^_^
Ethan’s birthday last year. Xiang baked that delicious white chocolate macadamia cake.
This year, he had carefully thought of the menu with Ethan in mind, cooking all of Ethan’s favourite dishes.
Sweet & Sour Chicken
One look at this sweet and sour chicken I am already smitten, but I always believe in ‘Do Not Judge A Book by Its Cover’ so I don’t know if this dish will taste as good as it looks but oh me, oh my, this is one of the BEST sweet and sour chicken I’ve ever had! I can’t believe it when Xiang said that this is his first time dishing this out. We are his guinea pigs! Guinea pigs or not, we happily cleared this one..
Steamed Soy Sauce Fish
I dunno what he did to the fish until its mouth opened that wide but I drenched Ethan’s rice with the sauce and he loves it. He loves the fish too.
Fried mix vegetables
Xiang knows Ethan loves broccoli, carrot, baby corn and cauliflower and he cooked just that. How meticulous this guy is!
ABC Soup
This ABC soup puts me to shame :( Ethan told me he loves KorKor Xiang’s soup and asked me if I can cook it that way. How???!!
Loh Han Guo
He even boiled this refreshing and thick loh han guo for us. Whoa! Felt so paiseh troubling him like that…
Ethan doesn’t know that a surprise is waiting for him after lunch. Imagine his surprise when KorKor Xiang presented him this cake..
He said it wasn’t even his birthday but knew that this is his belated birthday cake ^_^
Ethan is already happy getting a cake from Xiang but he still doesn’t know the surprise yet…
He made a wish and blew the flame off the candles..
And then the surprise is revealed! It is a rainbow cake! It has always been Ethan’s wish to get a rainbow cake and he finally got it today. Xiang spent almost 7 hours baking this for Ethan! <3
The rainbow cake is extremely gorgeous with each layer melting in our mouth, exhuding different flavours…
That boy is super surprised, super happy, super excited and everything synonym to happiness la!
You can tell how happy he is just by looking at this picture.
Thank you Xiang for all your effort and hardwork. William has this one question to ask you, “Why do you like Ethan so much?” LoL!
Ethan is indeed very lucky to have Xiang in his life but now I’m in trouble. Ethan is already requesting me to cook for him that Sweet & Sour Chicken and ABC soup which I know won’t turn out as well as Xiang’s! I told Xiang that I’ll never have lunch at his place again!

Is that cream or icing? I thought it was marzipan at first until you showed the sliced cake.
Huai Bin, I think it’s whipped cream? I’m no good in baking and doesnt know what is being used.. It aint oily for sure :)
That’s what I told Xiang too, that he got all the colours correct AND in the correct order too!
