Global Handwashing Day
*48 hours sticky post. Scroll down for latest entry*
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day.
How often do you wash your hands? Do you wash your hands after visiting the loo? Do you wash your hands before eating?
Do you wash your hands after typing on the computer keyboard before having your snacks? Hah! Caught you there didn’t I? We are so used to working on the PC and snacking at the same time, we often forgotten the fact that our keyboard can be very, very DIRTY! And then you just reach for the peanuts and popped them into your mouth!
You don’t see roaches on your hands but the fact is that our hands are pretty filthy due to the fact that we do things primarily using our hands.
You’d be surprised to know how filthy our hands really are.
Hand washing, when done correctly, is the single most effective way to keep our hands clean.
Washing hands with water alone is not enough. We need to wash our hands with soap.
Fight germs by washing your hands with soap!
Lifebuoy is a Unilever brand and one of the world’s leading germ-protection soap brands.
I need to make sure my hands are clean when I’m preparing food and I make sure Ethan (and Daddy) washes their hands with soap before eating.
In conjunction with Global Handwashing Day, I pledge to wash my hands with soap before eating via Lifebuoy’s FB page here.
Lifebuoy targets to collect at least 50,000 pledges in total. If this goal is achieved, Lifebuoy will contribute RM10,000 towards improving the toilet facility of selected schools throughout the Klang Valley. But as I can clearly see when I submitted my pledge, there are already over 700,000 pledges! That’s such an achievement!
In tandem with Global Handwashing Day day, more than 400 employees of Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd took to the streets on 15 October to encourage as many Malaysians as possible to pledge to always wash their hands with soap before eating. The employees were mobilised to several high-traffic locations throughout Klang Valley including KL Sentral, Hospital Columbia Asia Puchong and selected shopping malls and pledges were made via Lifebuoy’s Facebook page.
YB Datuk Rosnah Binti Haji Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Deputy Health Minister, was present at KL Sentral to ‘flag–off’ the Unilever employees. “It is heartening to see corporations contributing to society,” she said. Members of the public who are keen to make a pledge only had to place their signature on the Lifebuoy Pledge Board that were available at each location.
We were at the Curve yesterday when we saw Lifebuoy’s handwashing awareness effort.
Ethan wanted to wash his hands there and then! Awareness achieved!
On another fun note, you can also submit pictures of your child washing their hands:
I submitted Ethan’s pic happily washing his hands.
And when I was browsing through the rest of the photo submission, I saw this:
LoL! I saw Justin Bieber in there too!
That really made my day. I swear I’ll wash my hands every minute from today onwards as I now know JB is a hygiene freak too! Haha…
Now, please excuse me while I go wash my hands with soap…
