Thann Sanctuary : My very FIRST full body massage experience

I’m a virgin when it comes to body massage. The only massage I’ve experienced were from the massage chair in my house and paling best pun from Darling :D I’ve never been to any spa for a full body massage. Kesian kan? Last Saturday, after jalan-jalan in 1Utama, we went to One World to lepak and saw a brochure of Thann Sanctuary. I jokingly asked Darling if I can go for the massage and surprisingly, he said YES!

So there I was, clad only in their robe waiting for my massage.. Before that, let me bring you to a tour of Thann Sanctuary.

Spa consultation form

I was then required to fill a spa consultation form. See? I ticked NO when they asked if I’ve experienced spa treatments before. Such a pity right? It’s just not me to indulge in these kinda stuffs.. I was also required to jot down my preferences for the massage, from light to medium to firm. I ticked FIRM! Well, that is what I choose on my massage chair at HOME!

They handed me a treatment menu to choose from. Me, being a ‘virgin’, has no idea whatsoever to what to choose from. I then ask them for some recommendations and they recommended their signature massage, the Thai Aromatic massage. Well, I heard Thai is famous for massages and I love the word Aromatic so I agreed to it! Furthermore, it is their SIGNATURE massage, so it should be GOOD right?

Massage oils to choose from

I was presented with a tray of massage oils and am required to make my choice.

Organic massage oil with sesame and evening primrose oil

The consultant told me that this smells of lavender. I don’t really fancy it as the scent is very mild, hardly noticeable even.

Sea Foam

It’s just weird how the bottle was written sea foam when the scent is PEPPERMINT! This I quite like!

Aromatic wood

I can’t really recall how this smells like as it is also very mild.

Oriental Essence

Finally I chose oriental essence as I love the refreshing scent of lemongrass! Ok, so all set for the massage! Getting rather excited now! And then….

Hair cap and disposable panty

I did not see this coming. The masseuse handed me a hair cap and a disposable panty and told me to strip and wear only the panty and to put on the hair cap. Of course she said it in a very gentle manner. She left the room and I stripped and got into that black piece of panty (it looked rather big but it is NOT, really! :P). I put on the robe and the masseuse came in again to start the massage.

I laid face down enjoying the soothing sounds of the waves and I was ready to doze off when she started to rub my feet. She worked her fingers up my back and down my spine.. suddenly, Krack, Krook, Krack! My oh my! The crackling of my bones startled me! That was when I knew I won’t be able to wink not even for a second during this massage as this is all about cracking your bones, loosening you up, stretching and tugging and more! I felt like I was being karate chopped!

There were times when it was very soothing, then it was more crackling of the bones and I even thought that she must be crazy trying to pull my hands, legs and even head off my body! Hehe.. actually the masseuse was just trying to stretch me :P

How do I feel? A second felt like I’m breaking into pieces, the other second pure bliss and then I was crushed again. It was like being on a roller-coaster ride!! When she kneaded me with her elbow, I just had to beg for mercy!

My FIRST ever massage was not as what I had expected. Darling has been very gentle with his everyday massage that this Thai massage is a little over-whelming for me. Darling is going for HIS massage this coming weekend. Part of me wanted him to ~~suffer~~ try what I’ve gone through but a bigger part of me don’t have the heart to even think of putting him through the pain!

Finally I told Darling that massage Number 5 – Aroma, a light to medium pressure soothing massage to soothe the mind, lift the spirit and relax the body – will be more suitable for him. I want him to relax, not suffer.

My friends told me that Thai Massage is like THAT and they actually LOVE it. The harder, the better it seems! But if you ask me, I’d say, NO THANK YOU! -_-

Let’s just hope Darling will enjoy his session more than I do…

ya..perhaps u are not used to it. I love massage, and after so many times, macam no feel liao if the hand is not strong enough. Hence, the harder the BETTER!

Yes Thai massage can be a bit rough. I don't like too rough massage – cannot sleep! What I like is firm, not rough. Firm and exact to the points that need the massage badly! That would be heavenly! : )

I love Thai massage, whenever I travelled to Thailand, sure I would not miss their tradional massage. Talking about the pressure, the harder the better for me, I just couldn't have enough pressure everytime.

hahaha…thai massage is like this. you should have went for aromatheraphy massage then you can sleep thru it :)

we finally made our booking at thann sanctuary using the vouchers. cant wait for it!! :))

Well, at least you were willing to give it a try. I'm still a "virgin" when it comes to massages too. I'm so not into this kind of stuff… massages, spa and all… don't know how to enjoy/appreciate them.

Interesting experience of a massage! Yes I heard that Thai massage is supposed to be hard and aggressive, I guess it's not for you virgins :P But you DID feel better afterwards, right? :)

Nice! Haven't been to one for a long time now. Here, all the China dolls…dunno where they will picit…and simply picit – dun think they're properly trained. Proper, good place….soooooo nice after the whole thing. Your darling did not go kah? Hope he did not go to the China doll ones… Hehehehehe!!!!

But Thai massage a bit rough. You have that part where they swing you up and suddenly you find you are in the air. Scary…and I'm so big…yet they could lift me up. Kuat lihai… Once, enough! I'd rather go for the traditional Chinese ones…
