Little Yum Yum @ Kota Damansara
I pass by Kota Damansara everyday. There is no way I can go to my second home without going through Kota Damansara, but I don’t stop to explore the food there until today :D
We were invited by Little Yum Yum to review their food tonight. Little Yum Yum Restaurant offers a blend of Nyonya, Thai, Vietnamese & Chinese fusion. This Halal outlet caters to people from all walks of life. Yum Yum Restaurant was started by Michelle Chong & Dominic Chong 20 years ago on a moderate scale. It has now grown to the current double storey restaurant situated at Persiaran Green Hill, Ipoh.
This is the second outlet originated from Ipoh since 1991
The second outlet Little Yum Yum Restaurant at Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya have opened on 1st Dec 2010 runned by Michelle Chong’s second son Chef Daniel Chong & wife Terri Chew
Food must be good as they were featured in the press
Flowers on each table
Homemade soya bean drink. I was busy talking (as usual) and in between kaypoh-ing I took a sip of this drink. It immediately shut me up! Why? Because it has a tinge of saltiness in it! I thought I tasted wrongly and took another sip and oh yeah, it’s saltish. We asked Terri and she explained that the soya bean is home-made and ‘a pinch’ of salt were added to retain it’s freshness since they do not use any preservative. The unique taste is something that needed some getting used to.
We requested for some ice and sugar hoping to dilute the drink a little
But ended up ordering watermelon juice instead! :D
We had Kerabu Paku with Prawn and Cashew Nut (Small – RM14 / Large – RM28)
This dish offers a refreshing new taste. We were intrigued by the pinkish gravy and Chef Daniel told us it is the result of the combination of milk and sambal belacan. Nice!
Nyonya Gulai Tumis – traditional Nyonya assam gulai without coconut milk cooked with herbs and chillies
Chinese Promfret RM90-RM130 per kg
Fish Cutlet RM60-RM120 per kg
Vietnamese Mix Seafood – a perfect combination of prawn, squid, petai and brinjal scented with basil pesto (Small – RM18 / Large – RM30)
My favourite here has got to be the petai. The crunchy texture makes it enjoyable to bite and the seafood served is fresh. The squid is not at all rubbery and the succulent prawn pops in your mouth :P
Yum Yum’s Special Fried Tofu topped with sesame plum sauce (Small – RM7 / Large – RM13)
The tofu would be perfect if served with more plum sauce as what we got tonight was a little lacking on the sauce.
Yum Yum Special Thai Style Egg (Small – RM9 / Large – RM15)
The aroma of freshly fried egg lingered in the air when this dish was served!
Yum Yum’s Special Pandan Chicken – boneless chicken thigh marinated with 10 types of herbs and spices. Each piece is individually wrapped in pandan leaves. Best seller since 1991!
RM3.80 per piece. The chicken is very tender and well marinated. Thumbs up to this dish.
Baby Kai Lan (Choy Tham) Salted Fish (Small – RM9 / Large – RM16)
Choy Tham fried with salted fish to give that extra aroma. Delish.
Kerabu Mango with Fried Cuttlefish (Small – RM9 / Large – RM16)
The potent flavor of mango in this dish is delicious. The mango retains its flavour even though it is mixed with a variety of sorts. Very appetising.
The Red Ruby deserves our thumbs up. The combination of jackfruit, water chestnut and milk is simply delicious. It looks equally good too!
