An ear block is not JUST an ear block :(

I’ve been having this irritating ear block for about a week now. I never thought much about it thinking it must be due to my sniffles.

This morning when Ethan woke me up at 2am to go pee, I felt the most excruciating pain in my right ear. It felt like as if somebody has poked my ear with a stick and repeatedly shoving it into my ear! I thought this MUST be the worst headache ever or maybe I’m coming down with migraine or something so I popped two Panadol Actifast and tried getting back to sleep. But I can’t. It was just too painful.

I looked at Ethan and Darling. Since both of them have just recovered from bad flu and cough I thought well, better let them sleep and not wake them. I tossed and turned on my bed, unable to sleep until 8am when I can’t stand it no more. I woke Darling up and he quickly rushed me to Tropicana Medical Centre (TMC). Thank goodness we live nearby!

I was almost ‘immobile’ by the time we arrived TMC. Every single step, every single move hurts like hell. Needless to say, by now I’ve already lost my balancing. Walking straight is a battle. Waiting for the nurse to call my name was like forever (even though it took less than fifteen minutes). Darling pleaded with the nurse to get the doctor to attend to me as soon as possible and thank goodness the doctor did.

The doctor did a Rigid Scope procedure and found out that I have a bad ear infection in my right ear. It was already badly swollen and inflamed by then. She then blah, blah, blah explained to Darling what is actually happening to me right now with my nose not looking too good either. And there I was, suddenly bursting out crying as I can’t stand the pain anymore. She gave me two choices – to be admitted or to get jabs. I opt for jabs as I can’t imagine being admitted. I hate hospitals!

They referred me to the Emergency ward where I got two jabs – one on the butt and another on the arm. By the time they jabbed my butt I was halfway in dreamland already. I was in too much pain to be able to stay awake… I ‘fainted’ on the hospital bed right after those jabs. I regained consciousness about 15 minutes later and felt much better. At least there was no more that numbing throbbing pain in the ear that causes my entire head to the neck to be pounding like a BOOM BOOM box!

I’m back at home now and I can’t sit long or do anything as yet. Am still very weak so if you don’t see me for sometime, that is just because I’m recuperating…

Till then, if you have an ear block for sometime, just don’t ignore it as it might be more than just an ordinary ear block :(

By the way, I am so thankful that Ethan behaves all the time we were at the hospital. He knows that Mummy is in pain and just sat down there quietly munching on his crackers. Thank you Ethan, Mummy loves you…

Omigawd!!! How did that happen? Eyewwww….I had a bad experience when I thought a cotton bud fell into my ear – this one's a lot worse!

Oh poor thing, it must be very pain. I got a similar like this b4, swollen and red, take antibiotic and some ear drop, no that serious like you. Wish your speedy recovery ya.

hey..u go rest Merryn.. dont lagi blog crazily like I do.. gosh.. last time i experienced one time, couldnt hear at one side.. quickly checked with doc and he vacuumed a big "thing" from my ear.. yucks! anyway, u take care..

OMG! That's horrible experience… I felt pain in my ear by simple going through your post!!!You meant you had this uneasy feeling for sometime liao before it became worst, aiyor… I was like that too, always hold until the last minute than only seek for consultation.:(Get well soon and hope it didn't impact your hearing! p/s: Ethan is such a thoughtful boy!
