My sweet black chick
I don’t go to the market. Darling is a night owl so he can never wake up early in the morning to send me to the market. I don’t drive… :D
So where do I get my kitchen supplies from? Darling. Twice a week he will go grocery shopping at Jusco in the evenings after work. He’ll buy chicken and fish from there too. I know, I know.. I can hear some of you shouting, “Not fresh~lah!” But what to do, beggars can’t be choosers. I am pretty comfortable with the arrangement as I dislike shopping (either for food, clothes/shoes or anything) to the max!
He will then bring the groceries home and usually by the time I finish cleaning up the chicken (after I’m done blogging) will be midnight already. So this is what I usually do…
Skin the drumsticks. Oh yeah Darling buys drumsticks only. He says it is more tender. He used to love chicken breast when he was single but ever since he found me, it is drumstick all the way :P
Cut them into small bite pieces.
Add a dash of pepper.
And a spoonful of honey.
Lots of dark soy sauce.
Mix them well together and store in the refrigerator. The chicken will be nicely marinated by tomorrow. In the morning, just take them out.
* Heat a wok, add a little oil and brown the meat.
* Remove the meat.
* In a bowl, add some water, pepper, honey and dark soy sauce again.
* Pour into the wok and let it simmer until bubbly.
* You may want to add a pinch of salt for kicks :D
* Mix some corn flour with a little water and add to the mixture
* Once thicken add the chicken meat back into the simmering gravy.
* Mix well and dish out.
I can never go wrong with this dish. Ethan and every other kids love it to the max as it is slightly sweet and very delicious! I learned this from my mother but my mother’s version is using pork. Since I don’t cook pork at home, I use chicken meat instead :D
Oh yeah, just like my mom, I like to slice some potatoes and fry them. Arrange them neatly on a plate before dishing out the chicken meat :)
Tah-dah! My sweet black chick. The gravy goes deliciously well with white rice. Yummy :D
